ABOUT THE EDITOR

DEEANN BONGIOVANNI

I  write about issues related to to children’s health-care policy, with an emphasis on the humanities. I began this path by combining my work as an RN in the NICU with my BA focused in Health Policy Research from DePaul University to complete a Certificate in Medical Writing at the University of Chicago. Further binging together my direct-care perspective of children’s issues; my understanding of of research from a policy perspective; and my writing skills from a medical perspective; I earned an MA in Literature at the University of Houston, Clear Lake. Today, I am far removed from hands-on clinical work; however, my continued studies in the literary humanities has given me an even greater awareness of the need to connect the experiences and observations of direct caregivers with information that has been subjected to the scientific method by social and physician researchers. Ultimately, my goal in publishing PediatricAccess is to emphasize how the literary arts can be a bridge between the love-based intuitive understandings of caregivers and the same understandings that are brought into contextual clarity by researchers.
